I’m interested in the abiotic and biotic drivers of ecological stability. Specifically, I develop concepts and methods for assessing the role of response diversity in driving stability, and I use ecoacoustic data to quantify ecosystem dynamics, change, and stability in real-world ecosystems. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the cinema, drinking matcha lattes, and being Kyoto’s least-requested DJ.

Acoustic Data Research Specialist

I am recruiting a research specialist to work with the large-scale acoustic datasets generated by our ecoacoustic monitoring projects. The role will focus on receiving, organising, storing, backing up and sharing research data, together with preprocessing acoustic recordings, calculating acoustic indices, and using machine-learning models for species identification.
Depending on experience and interests, the position may also involve training and improving machine-learning models, processing and analysing data in R or Python, and developing and automating analysis workflows. Applicants should be comfortable working with large research datasets and enthusiastic about learning new analytical tools and technologies.
Research communication in English is required. Japanese language ability is desirable but not required. Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain by appointment, a PhD, or have equivalent research experience and technical ability at approximately postgraduate level.

We are recruiting a fully funded PhD student to apply ecoacoustics to the study of species interactions and response diversity.
The position is part of the wider ReDiLEEP Doctoral Network, which brings together researchers across Europe and beyond to investigate how response diversity contributes to ecological resilience and stability.
Eligibility: EU mobility rules apply. Applicants are not eligible if they have resided or carried out their main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately before recruitment.
